SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University volleyball team (0-18, 0-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) starts a six-game homestand facing North Carolina A&T University (2-9, 0-0 MEAC) in the Lady Tigers MEAC home opener Friday at 6 p.m. and North Carolina Central University (1-8, 0-0 MEAC) Sunday at 1 p.m. in Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
Freshman middle blocker
Dominique Ingram leads the Lady Tigers with 1.88 kills per set and with 0.72 blocks per set, while junior setter
Alee Quint leads the team with 4.62 assists per set and senior libero
Alexis Washington leads the team with 3.52 digs per set.
Senior setter
Caitlynn Masoe is averaging 1.81 kills per set, 2.29 assists per set, 0.40 service aces per set, which ranks fourth in the MEAC and 69
th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and 1.67 digs per set. The Long Beach, Calif., native's 23 service aces ranks second in the conference and 39
th in the NCAA.
The Lady Tigers went 0-2 last weekend to open MEAC play. SSU fell to Bethune-Cookman 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 22-25) in Daytona Beach, Fla., Friday night and to Florida A&M 3-0 (11-25, 17-25, 15-25) Sunday in Tallahassee, Fla.
NCAT and NCCU are both starting MEAC play this weekend.
NCAT has lost the last four matches, but their last win was against MEAC opponent Hampton (3-0) at the Spartan-Aggie Invitational. The Aggies are led by Samara Brown with 3.18 kills per set, Liz Martino with 5.47 assists per set and Keniah Rivera with 3.05 digs per set.
NCCU also has lost the last four games, all four 3-0 sweeps, with the last win against Alabama A&M (3-1) at the UNC Asheville Invitational. The Eagles are led by Casey Curran with 2.46 kills per set, Paige Phillips with 6.68 assists per set and Bree Simmons with 3.82 digs per set.
The Lady Tigers continue the homestand hosting South Carolina State University (0-16, 0-2 MEAC) Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.
