Ingram leads SSU with 15 Kills as Volleyball Drops both Matches Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C.  – Freshman outside hitter Dominique Ingram led the Savannah State University volleyball team with 15 kills, a .344 hitting percentage and eight total blocks in two matches Saturday as the Lady Tigers fell to host The Citadel 3-0 (21-25, 8-25, 23-25) and to Austin Peay State University 3-0 (14-25, 20-25, 21-25) at the Bulldog Invitational in McAlister Field House.
 
Senior setter Caitlynn Masoe added nine kills, 13 assists and 11 digs, while junior setter Alee Quint led the team with 28 assists and senior libero Alexis Washington led the team with 18 digs combined in both matches.
 
Graduate student Justice Dilworth added 13 digs and six kills, while sophomore outside hitter Charlinda Colbert added eight kills and six blocks in both matches.

Ingram led the Lady Tigers with eight kills and with a .533 hitting percentage, while Quint led the team with 13 assists and Dilworth led the team with 12 digs and added three kills.
 
Masoe led the Lady Tigers with six kills and added nine assists and six digs, Washington added 10 digs and two service aces.
 
The Citadel scored five of the first eight points in the first set to capture a 5-3 lead, but the Lady Tigers scored four of the next five points to take a point lead, 7-6.  The Bulldogs scored three of the next five points to tie the match at nine, but Savannah State scored the next three points to take a three-point lead, 12-9.  The Citadel scored six of the next eight points to take a point lead, 15-14, forcing a Savannah State timeout.  After the timeout, Dilworth's kill tied the match at 15, but The Citadel outscored SSU 10-7 during the rest of the set to capture the four-point set win and to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
The Citadel scored 18 of the first 20 points to take an 18-2 in the second frame, but the Lady Tigers scored the next two points to cut the lead to 18-4, but the Bulldogs outscored SSU 7-4 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
The Bulldogs scored four of the first five points in the final stanza to capture a 4-1 lead, but the Lady Tigers battled back scoring five of the next seven points to tie the match at six.  The Citadel scored the next four points to take a four-point lead, 10-6, but the Lady Tigers answered back scoring four unanswered points to tie the match at 10.  The Citadel scored the next five points to take a five-point lead, 15-10, and pushed their lead to seven, 22-15, but outscoring SSU 7-5. 
 
The Lady Tigers weren't done as Savannah State scored the next five points to cut the lead to two points, 22-20, forcing a Citadel timeout.  After a Bulldog point to increase the lead to three, 23-20, the Lady Tigers scored the next three points to tie the set.  Back-to-back kills from the Citadel gave the Bulldogs the two-point set win and the match win. 
 
The Bulldogs were led by Megan Sowell and Sarah Dobrich with five kills each, Priscilla Irizarry with 11 assists and Samantha Espy with 12 digs.

Ingram led the Lady Tigers with seven kills and with five solo blocks, while Quint led the team with 15 assists and added five digs and Washington led the team with eight digs.
 
Colbert added four kills, while Masoe added three kills, four assists and five digs and sophomore outside hitter Alaina Monroe added six digs and two blocks.
 
Austin Peay State scored nine of the first 10 points in the first set to capture a 9-1 lead, but the Lady Tigers scored five of the next nine points to cut the lead to seven, 13-6.  APSU scored five of the next six points to increase its lead to 11, 18-7, but the Lady Tigers scored six of the next eight points to cut the lead to seven, 20-13, but APSU scored five of the next six points to capture the 11-point win and to take a 1-0 match lead. 
 
The Governors scored four of the first five points in the second stanza to capture a 4-1 lead, but the Lady Tigers scored five of the next six points to take a point lead, 6-5.  With the score tied at eight, Austin Peay State scored the next four points to take a four-point lead, 12-8.  APSU outscored SSU 13-12 during the rest of the set to capture the five-point set win and to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
The Lady Tigers scored seven of the first 10 points to take a 7-3 lead in the final frame, but Austin Peay State scored five of the next six points to tie the set at eight.  Savannah State scored five of the next six points to take a four-point lead, 13-9, but the Governors scored the next three points to close within a point, 13-12.  The Lady Tigers scored five of the next seven points to take a four-point lead, 18-14, but APSU outscored SSU 11-3 during the rest of the set to capture the four-point set win and to win the match.
 
The Governors were led by Cecily Gable with 17 kills, Kristen Stucker with 33 assists and Ginny Gerig with 11 digs.
 
The Lady Tigers start Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play traveling to Florida next weekend.  Savannah State starts with Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach on Friday at 7 p.m., and face Florida A&M University Sunday at 3 p.m. in Tallahassee.
