Volleyball Travels to Charleston for the Bulldog Invitational This Weekend

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University volleyball team (0-12) travels to Charleston, S.C., this weekend for the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by The Citadel. 

The Lady Tigers face Elon University (10-2) at 11:30 a.m., and Charleston Southern University (4-8) at 4:30 p.m. Friday and then face The Citadel (4-7) at 11:30 a.m., and Austin Peay State University (5-6) at 5 p.m. Saturday. 
 
Dominique Ingram leads the Lady Tigers with 2.00 kills per set and with 0.72 blocks per set this season, while junior setter Alee Quint leads the team with 4.69 assists per set.
 
Senior libero Alexis Washington leads the team with 3.28 digs per set, while junior setter Caitlynn Masoe is averaging 1.72 kills per set, 2.38 assists per set, 0.46 service aces per set, 1.41 digs per set and 0.23 blocks per set.
 
The last two matches, the Lady Tigers have won a set in each match, but falling to Troy 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 19-25, 23-25) and to Charleston Southern 3-1 (10-25, 25-14, 14-25, 12-25) Tuesday in Willcox-Wiley Gym.
 
After losing the first match of the season, Elon has gone 10-1, including winning the last seven matches.  The Phoenix is coming off a 3-0 sweep at North Carolina Central Tuesday after going 4-0 at the Elon Phoenix Classic with wins over Norfolk State 3-0, Wofford 3-2, Delaware State 3-0 and Gardner-Webb 3-1.  The Phoenix is led by Kam Terry with 3.68 kills per set, Sydel Curry with 10.56 assists per set and Maddie Jaudon with 4.60 digs per set. 
 
For the third time this season, Charleston Southern and the Lady Tigers will meet on the court.  CSU has won both matches this season, including a 3-1 win this past Tuesday.  Prior to that match, the Buccaneers had lost four matches in a row, including going 0-3 at the CofC Classic.  The Bucs are led by Brooke Monssen with 2.72 kills per set, Rachel Smith with 6.96 assists per set and Madison Martin with 4.49 digs per set.
 
The Citadel and the Lady Tigers both meet in Statesboro, Ga., at the Bash in the 'Boro as The Citadel came away with a 3-0 (22-25, 11-25, 24-26) win on Sept. 1.  The Bulldogs have gone 1-6 in the last seven matches, including going 0-4 at the Fullerton Classic with losses to Colgate 3-1, Cal State Fullerton 3-0, Weber State 3-0 and Air Force 3-1.  The Bulldogs are led by Moriah Smith with 4.69 kills per set, Logan Smith with 8.29 assists per set and Samantha Espy with 4.51 digs per set.
 
Austin Peay has lost the last two matches, including a 3-2 loss to Saint Louis Tuesday.  Prior to that the Governors went 3-1 at the Dunn Hospitality Tournament with wins over Evansville 3-0 and Kent State 3-2, but fell to Dayton 3-0.  APSU is led by Ashley Slay with 2.72 kills per set, Kristen Stucker with 9.17 assists per set and Ginny Gerig with 2.92 digs per set.
 
After the tournament, the Lady Tigers start Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on the road traveling to Bethune-Cookman University (1-8) in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., and to Florida A&M University (2-8) in Tallahassee, Fla., on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.
