Volleyball Continues Season with the Bash in the ‘Boro This Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University continues its season with the Bash in the 'Boro on Thursday and Friday in Statesboro. 

The Lady Tigers face The Citadel at 11 a.m. and Charleston Southern at 3 p.m. on Thursday and faces host Georgia Southern at 1 p.m. and Jacksonville State at 5 p.m. Friday. 
 
In the opening weekend, senior setter Caitlynn Masoe led the team with 1.78 kills per set and averaged 1.67 assists per set, 0.33 service aces per set and 0.33 blocks per set, while freshman outside hitter Dominic Ingraham added 1.56 kills per set and 0.67 blocks per set. 
 
Junior setter Alee Quint leads the team with 4.44 assists per set, while senior libero Alexis Washington leads the team with 2.89 digs per set. 
 
The Lady Tigers went 0-3 last weekend at the Benson Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia.  SSU fell to San Francisco 3-0 (15-25, 15-25. 16-25), Georgia 3-0 (12-25, 10-25, 14-25) and UNC Asheville 3-0 (11-25, 16-25, 14-25).
 
The Citadel (2-1) defeated Morehead State (3-2) and Gardner-Webb (3-2), but fell to Robert Morris (2-3) in the opening weekend.  Moriah Smith leads the team with 4.60 kills per set and is averaging 3.73 digs per set, while Carla Bruce is averaging 2.73 kills per set.  Logan Smith leads the team with 6.93 assists per set, while Samantha Espy leads the team with 5.40 digs per set. 
 
Charleston Southern (1-3) defeated South Carolina State 3-0 Tuesday for its first win of the season after going 0-3 at the Catamount Volleyball Classic to open the season.  Brooke Monssen leads the team with 3.20 kills per set and averages 0.53 blocks per set, while Hannah Western is averaging 2.47 kills per set and 3.00 digs per set.  Rachel Smith leads the team with 8.80 assists per set, while Taylor Allman leads the team with 4.36 digs per set. 
 
Georgia Southern (0-3) lost all three matches 3-0 to No. 19 North Carolina, No. 9 Penn State and West Virginia.  Megan Chevalier leads the team with 2.22 kills per set, while Anna Wenger is averaging 1.71 kills per set.  Katie Bange leads the team with 4.22 assists per set, while Alex Beecher is averaging 4.67 digs per set.
 
Jacksonville State (0-3) opened up the season at the Air Force Tournament last weekend and lost all three matches to Air Force Academy (2-3), Grand Canyon (0-3) and Montana State (1-3).  Allyson Zuhlke leads the team with 3.25 kills per set, while Kaylee Frear is averaging 3.08 kills per set.  Jennifer Hart leads the team with 5.40 assists per set, while Hannah Kirk leads the team with 3.33 digs per set. 
 
The Lady Tigers host their first home match of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. against East Carolina University in Willcox-Wiley Gym.
