GREENSBORO, N.C.- Bernard Barnes drove in four runs but it would not be enough as Savannah State lost to North Carolina A&T by a score of 18-7 in a game played at War Memorial Stadium.
The Aggies broke open a close game with seven runs in the third inning and never looked back.
Both teams now have 6-15 MEAC records.
Savannah State (11-37) took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Mendez Elder hit a RBI single and Barnes hit a three run home run for the Tigers.
A&T answered for three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Myles Sowell hit a three run triple in the third as the Aggies sent seven runners across home plate to grab a 10-4 lead.
Jonathan Moore blasted a two run single for SSU in the fourth to close their gap to 10-6 but A&T answered with three runs in the bottom portion of the inning to make the score 13-6.
The Tigers loaded the bases in the seventh but could only score one run. Moore and Elder each hit singles to reach base. The runners stole a base and Moore scored on a ground out by Barnes to make he score 13-7.
North Carolina A&T (13-18) added five runs in the bottom of the seventh as Adan Ordonez hit a two run single and Kyle Clark hit a RBI double.
Chris Hayes took the loss for SSU. Hayes pitched 1.2 innings and gave up six hits and five runs.
Moore had three hits, two RBI and scored twice for the Tigers.
As a team, SSU had eight hits, made three errors and left seven men on base.
Danny Garrett was the winning pitcher. Garrett pitched 2.1 innings and gave up two hist, two runs and two walks while striking out three.
Clark drove in four runs and scored three times for A&T.
The Aggies had 17 hits and left left seven men on base.
