TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Trailing 5-2, Savannah State scored five runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh in a 10-5 conference win over Florida A&M.
The victory broke a 10- game losing streak for the Tigers.
SSU's win was in the second game of a double-header. FAMU won the opener, 11-4.
Both contests were played at Moore-Kittles Field.
In the Tigers win, SSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Brian Miller led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mendez Elder. Jonathan Moore singled and later scored on a wild pitch.
FAMU scored four times off of two hits in the bottom of the inning.
The Rattleres added another run in the fifth for a 5-2 cushion.
SSU loaded the bases in the sixth and Cole Bruce singled to center field which cleared the bases. Malcolm Moore followed with a RBI triple which was followed by a RBI single by Miller to put Savannah State ahead 7-5.
The Tigers did not get any hits in the seventh but managed to scored three times to increase their lead to 10-5.
Jacky Miles had three hits for the Rattlers while Kendal Weeks was tagged with the loss on the mound.
SSU (10-30, 5-9 MEAC) had 10 hits in the game while FAMU had six and made three errors.
In the first game, both teams scored twice in the fifth inning.
Barnes and Jacob Lightle crossed home plate for the Tigers in the top half of the fifth while Alec Wong hit a two-run single for FAMU in the bottom of the inning.
The Rattlers (23-14, 13-4 MEAC) blew the game open with five runs in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Savannah State scored a run in the top of the seventh when Jonathan Moore hit a RBI single that scored Barnes, who drew a walk to reach base.
SSU loaded the bases in the ninth but could only get one run as Nick Palmer, who singled, scored when Jonathan Moore hit into a fielder's choice.
Jonathan Moore had three hits and drove in three runs for Savannah State while Barnes scored twice.
Marlon Gibbs had four hits and drove in five runs for FAMU while Danny Rodriguez was the winning pitcher.
SSU collected eight hits and left nine runners on base while Florida A&M had 12 hits and left 10 runners on base.
