SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State's top three scorers had a off night and could net get their offense in gear as the Tigers lost to Texas Arlington in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament., 75-59.The Tiger Arena crowd of 1,192 saw Troyce Manassa, Chris Martin and Lenjo Kilo combine to score just nine points with Manassa scoring five, Martin netting four while Kilo was held scoreless. The trio shot 2 for 17 from the field. Savannah State (16-16) relied on their freshmen reserves for points with Dexter McClanahan scoring a team-high 15 points and Isaiah Felder chipping in 10. UT Arlington jumped out to a 13-2 lead but the Tigers fought back to get within 18-17 at the 10:35 mark thanks to a trio of 3-pointers by Kamil Williams, Felder and McClanahan. The Mavericks responded with 12 unanswered points to increase their advantage to 30-17 with 4:54 remaining in the first period.
UT Arlington's lead grew as large as 17 in the opening half as they took a 40-23 lead into intermission.
The Mavericks opened the second half with a 11-3 spurt to go ahead 51-26.
SSU trailed by 28 with 10:37 remaining in the second half before mounting a 12-3 run to pull within 65-46 with 6:30 on the clock.
Down by 24 with 4:24 left, a 11-0 run by the Tigers closed their deficit to 71-58 with 1:52 remaining but could not get any closer.
Savannah State, who out-scored the Mavericks 36-35 in the second half, finished the game shooting 31.3 percent from he field. The Tigers had 13 steals but were out-rebounded 38 to 23.
UT Arlington (24-10) was led by Drew Charles and Jalen Jones who scored 19 points apiece. Jones also had 10 rebounds
