Ospreys Rally Past Savannah State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Down 4-2, North Florida scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and hung on to defeat Savannah State 7-4 in a non-conference game played at Harmon Field.
 
Keith Skinner hit a RBI single in the third to give UNF the early 1-0 but Savannah State answered with three runs in the top of the fourth as they collected five hits.
 
Charles Sikes, Jakeel Daniels and Mendez Elder all singled to load the bases for the Tigers (1-4). Khalyd Cox hit a single that scored Sikes followed by a sacrifice fly by Knox Marchman that allowed Daniels to score. After Ryan McCranie struck out, Somto Egbuna singled to drive home Elder for a 3-1 advantage.
 
Both teams scored a run in the seventh.
 
Brian Miller hit a single for the Tigers and scored on a single by Elder to give SSU a 4-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Dakota Higdon drew a walk and scored on a single by Kyle Brooks to cut their deficit to 4-2.
 
The Ospreys took the lead for good in the eighth as Corbin Olmstead hit a two-run single that keyed a inning in which they scored five runs off of four hits. Two of the runs were unearned.
 
Miller had three hits for SSU while Sikes and Elder had two hits apiece. Rex Davis took the loss for the Tigers. Davis pitched one and two thirds in relief and gave up four hits and five runs.
 
The Tigers had 12 hits, left nine runners on base and made one error.
 
UNF (3-1) had 13 hits, left 10 runners on base and committed two errors.
 
Brooks had a pair of doubles for the Ospreys while Austin Drury was the winner on the mound and Olmstead earned the save. Drury pitched six innings and gave up three runs while Olmstead pitched two-thirds of a inning.
