McClanahan Scores 28 In Loss To ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.- Dexter McClanahan scored 28 points for Savannah State as the Tigers dropped a 92-71 decision to East Tennessee State, in a game played at Freedom Hall.
 
McClanahan, who made seven 3-pointers, also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
 
It was the last game of the 2016 portion of the schedule as well as the final non-conference contest for the Tigers.
 
The crowd of 2,768 saw ETSU lead from start to finish.
 
ETSU led 13-3 and quickly increased their lead to 26-7 at the 12:11 mark, after a dunk by TJ Cromer.
 
Savannah State used a 14-3 run to close their gap to eight with 7:47 left in the first half.
 
SSU trailed by 15 with just under six minutes remaining but got a free throw from Austin Dasent and back to back 3-pointers from Zach Seller and Jahir Cabeza to get within 36-28.
 
The Bucs went into the break with a 44-33 halftime edge.
 
McClanahan started the second period with a layup to pull the Tigers within nine but they would get no closer the rest of the evening.
 
ETSU led by 17 with ten minutes left in the game and by 19 with just over five minutes remaining.
 
SSU sliced their deficit to 16 with 3:08 left in the game but the Bucs strung together a 10-3 run to grab their largest lead of the night, 91-68.
 
The only other Tiger player in double figures was freshman Robert Kelly, who had 10 points and five rebounds. Maricus Glenn came off the bench to grab a game-high nine rebounds for SSU (3-10).
 
The Tigers shot 37.3 percent from the field and made 39.5 of their 3-point attempts.
 
East Tennessee (10-3) was led by Cromer's game-high 30 points.
 
The Bucs shot 43.7 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from beyond the arc while out-rebounding the Tigers 46 to 38.
 
ETSU beat the Tigers on second chance points (18 to 3) and fast break points (12 to 5).
