Isaiah Felder led seven Savannah State players in double figures with 18 points to lift the Tigers to a 123-108 win over crosstown rival Armstrong State, in an exhibition game played at Tiger Arena.

Felder, a sophomore guard from Orangeburg, South Carolina made six of his 10 shots from the field and connected on five 3-pointers, to go along with his two assists and two steals, in 19 minutes of action.

During the game, Savannah State shot 50 percent from the field but was out-rebounded by the Pirates 56 to 43.

SSU opened with consecutive 3-pointers from
Austin Dasent,
Jahir Cabeza and
Troyce Manassa as they built an 16-5 lead , less than five minutes after tipoff.

A layup by
Zach Sellers gave the Tigers a 21-8 lead with 14:04 left but Armstrong answered with layups from Denzel Council and Francisco Williams closed the visitors gap to nine.

A 3-pointer by Sellers pushed the SSU lead back to double digits and it remained that way the majority of the evening.

The teams traded baskets the rest of the half but a 3-pointer by SSU's
Casey Wells with 21 seconds left, sent the Tigers into intermission with a commanding 65-44 cushion.

The crowd of 3,147 saw Savannah State go ahead by 25 early in the second half and with 14:33 left, Sellers nailed a 3-pointer that gave the Tigers the largest lead of the night at 79-53.

That woke up the Pirates as they held SSU without a field goal on a 12-2 run that pulled them within 81-65 with 13:16 remaining.

Two free throws by
Jordan Gaines gave SSU a 22-point lead (96-74) at the 8:43 mark.

That led to a 12-2 spurt by Armstrong that sliced their deficit to 98-85 with 7:73 left.

A 3-pointer by Cabeza with 6:35 left gave SSU a 101-85 lead and put the Tigers into triple digits for the second straight exhibition game.

Armstrong whittled their gap to 111-107 with 1:43 remaining after a pair of free throws from Council but could not get any closer.

Cabeza finished with a double-double for SSU with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Joshua Floyd had 15 points and five assists, Manassa added 14 points, Wells chipped in 13, Dasent scored 11 and Robert Kelly contributed 10 points and six rebounds.

Armstrong, who finished the game shooting 40.4 percent from the field was paced by Corey Tillery who had a game-high 37 points and four steals. Council added 21 points and a game-high 16 rebounds while KJ James added 19 points and 1 rebounds. Montreal Goldston scored 12 points.
