Tigers Falter At San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Ca.- Savannah State had their lowest scoring output of the season in a 100-67 loss to San Diego State, in a game played at Viegas Arena.
 
The Tigers entered the game averaging 93.6 points but ended the contest shooting 32 percent from the field and only making 10 of 38 shots from beyond the arc.
 
Sophomore Dexter McClanahan was the only SSU plyer to finish in double figures with 13 points. McClanahan also had a career-high 10 rebounds.
 
The Aztecs, who led from start to finish. Jumped out to a 12-4 lead with 15:28 left in the first period.
 
Down by eight, McClendon responded with a 3-pointer and a layup to slice their deficit to 15-12.
 
SDSU struck back with a 20-7 run to go ahead by 16 with ten minutes left.
 
After a 3-pointer by Savannah State's Troyce Manassa pulled the Tigers within 13, the Aztecs strung together a back breaking 25-7 spurt to grab a 31-point cushion with 1:10 remaining.
 
Savannah State trailed 60-32 at intermission.
 
SSU outscored the Aztecs 10-4 to start the second period to whittle their deficit t to 22.
 
San Diego State used two big runs in the second half to pull away.
 
A 10-4 spurt gave the Aztecs a 28 point lead with 12:19 remaining and a 14-1 run increased their lead to 88-51 with 6:22 on the clock for their biggest lead of the evening.
 
Manassa, Austin Dasent and Jahir Cabeza all added nine point apiece for SSU.
 
The crowd of 12,414 saw Zylan Cheatham score a game-high 18 points for the Aztecs (4-1).
 
SDSU won the rebounding battle 55 to 48 while shooting42.2 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc.
