Quint Records a Double-Double as Volleyball Falls 3-1 to N.C. A&T Friday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior setter Alee Quint recorded her first double-double at Savannah State University as the Lady Tigers volleyball team (1-24, 1-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25) to North Carolina A&T State University (8-11, 5-1 MEAC) Friday night in Moore Gymnasium.

The Pueblo, Colo., native led the team with 22 assists and recorded 10 digs, a service ace and connected on her only attack, while graduate student Justice Dilworth led the team with 13 kills with a .276 hitting percentage and two service aces and five digs.   
 
Senior libero Alexis Washington led the team with 21 digs, while senior setter Caitlynn Masoe added 17 assists, six kills, eight digs, three blocks and two service aces and freshman middle blocker Dominique Ingram added nine kills and three blocks.
 
NCAT scored six of the first 10 points to take a two-point lead, 6-4, in the first set, but the Lady Tigers scored three of the next four points to tie the set at seven.  The Aggies scored the next two points for a two-point lead, 9-7, but SSU scored the next two point to tie it at nine.  NCAT scored the next six points to take a seven-point lead, 16-9.  The Lady Tigers outscored NCAT 12-7 to cut the lead to three points, 24-21, but an NCAT kill gave the Aggies the set win and to take a 1-0 match lead. 
 
The Aggies scored the first two points in the second stanza for a 2-0 lead, but the Lady Tigers scored three of the next four points to tie the set at three.  With the Aggies holding a point lead, 7-6, Savannah State scored the next three points to take a two-point lead, 9-7.  After an Aggie point to cut the lead to a point, 9-8, the Lady Tigers scored the next two points to take a four-point lead, 12-8, forcing a North Carolina A&T timeout.
 
After the timeout, the Aggies scored a point to pull within three points, 12-9, but the Lady Tigers scored six of the next nine points to increase their lead to six points, 18-12, forcing another NCAT timeout.  After the timeout, the Aggies scored the next three points to pull within three points, 18-15, but after back-to-back kills from sophomore outside hitter Alaina Monroe and Dilworth gave the Lady Tigers a five-point lead, 20-15.  SSU outscored NCAT 5-4 during the rest of the set to win the second set and to tie the match at one.
 
NCAT scored seven of the first 10 points in the third set to take a four-point lead, 7-3, in the third frame forcing a Savannah State timeout.  After the timeout, the Lady Tigers scored a point to pull within three points, 7-4, but the Aggies scored the next five points to take a seven-point lead, 12-5.  The Lady Tigers scored five of the next seven points to pull within five points, 15-10, but NCAT scored the next three points to take an eight-point lead, 18-10.

NCAT scored three of the first four points in the final set to take a 3-1 lead, but the Lady Tigers scored the next three points to tie the set at three.  The Aggies scored seven of the next nine points to take a five-point lead, 10-5, but Savannah State scored eight of the next nine points to take a two-point lead, 13-11 forcing a North Carolina A&T State timeout. 
 
After the timeout, the Aggies scored the next four points to take a two-point lead, 15-13, but the Lady Tigers scored four of the next five points to take a point lead, 17-16.  NCAT outscored SSU 8-5 during the rest of the set to win the set and the match.
 
The Aggies were led by Samara Brown with 20 kills and added 17 digs for a double-double, Kayla Finnerty with 20 assists and Keniah Rivera with 19 digs.
 
The Lady Tigers stay in North Carolina to face North Carolina Central University Sunday at 1 p.m. in Durham.
