Savannah State Swats Delaware State

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Lenjo Kilo had his second straight double to lead Savannah State to a 64-47 victory over visiting Delaware State in a game played at Tiger Arena.
 
Kilo finished the contest with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
Chris Martin led all scorers with 16 points while Troyce Manassa added 13 points and nine rebounds. Martin and Manassa each made four 3-pointers for the Tigers.
 
Savannah State (7-9, 3-2 MEAC) raced out to a 16-2 lead and were never threaten.
 
During the Tigers run, the crowd of 1,020 saw Martin score eight points, Manassa collect six and Kilo make a layup.
 
Delaware State put together a mini-deficit to 16-8 but
 
During the final seven and a half minutes of the opening half, SSU used a pair of 3-pointers from Manassa, a 3-pointer by Isaiah Felder and a dunk by Kilo to build a 15 point cushion.
 
SSU led 29-16 at intermission.
 
A 9-3 run to start the second half boosted the Tigers lead to 38-18 with 14:27 on the clock.
 
The Hornets (1-16, 0-3) trimmed the SSU lead to 14 with just under ten minutes remaining but a 14-2 spurt by Savannah State gave the Tigers their largest lead of the evening at 54-28 with 5:58 left.
 
Trailing 56-32 with 4:46 remaining in regulation, DSU put together a 13-3 run to get within 59-45 with 1:25 left.
 
That would be as close as the Hornets would get.
 
SSU shot 44 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Hornets 34 to 25.
 
Delaware State shot 35.7 percent from the floor and were led by Devin Morgan's 15 points.
