Volleyball Falls to Kennesaw State and Alabama State 3-0

Savannah State hosts ECU on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KENNESAW, Ga. – On the second day of the Kennesaw State Invitational, Savannah State University volleyball team fell to host Kennesaw State 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-10) and to Alabama State 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16) at KSU Convocation Center on Saturday. 

Freshman outsider hitter Makayla Tam led the Lady Tigers with eight kills in both matches, while senior outside hitter Christian Lyle and junior middle blocker Gabrielle Nathaniel added six kills each. 
 
Junior Caitlynn Masoe added 20 assists in both matches and freshman setter Briana Littlejohn added 15 assists, while junior libero Alexis Washington led the team with 18 digs in both matches.
 
The Lady Tigers (0-3) return home with its first home match of the 2015 season against East Carolina (0-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Willcox-Wiley Gym.

Kennesaw State 3, Savannah State 0
Savannah State University volleyball team fell to host Kennesaw State 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-10) on Saturday at KSU Convocation Center.
 
Tam led the Lady Tigers (0-2) with five kills and with two service aces and added three digs, while Masoe led the team with eight assists and added two kills and three digs and junior libero Alexis Washington led the team with eight digs. 
 
The Lady Tigers scored the first point of the match after a kill from sophomore middle blocker Autumn Lipscomb, but the Owls (2-0) scored two of the next three points to tie the score at two.  KSU then scored the next six points to capture an 8-2 lead and went on to outscore SSU 17-8 during the rest of the set to take an early 1-0 lead.  Tam led the team with two kills, while Masoe had four assists and Washington had three digs.
 
The second set started out very similar as the first set, as the Lady Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead, but KSU scored three of the next four points for a 3-2 lead.  The Owls finished the set outscoring SSU 22-9 to take a 2-0 lead.  Nathaniel connected on two of three attempts for a .667 hitting percentage, while Tam added two kills and Masoe led the team with three assists and Washington added four digs.
 
In the third set, KSU got off to a fast start scoring seven of the first eight points forcing a SSU timeout.  After the timeout, the Lady Tigers scored the first two points to close the gap 7-3, but the Owls outscored SSU 18-7 during the rest of the set to win the set and the match.  Littlejohn led the team with four assists and Tam had three digs.
 
The Owls were led by Sydni Shelton with nine kills and had a .562 hitting percentage, Kristi Piedimonte with 14 assists and added five digs and two kills and Katarina Morton with nine digs.
 
Alabama State 3, Savannah State 0
Savannah State University fell to Alabama State 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16) in the final match of the Kennesaw State Invitational at KSU Convocation Center on Saturday. 
 
Nine players recorded at least one kill, including five players with at least three kills.  Lyle led the way with five kills and added two block assists, while freshman outside hitter Chinenye Ofodile added four kills.  Masoe led the team with 12 assists and two digs followed by Littlejohn with eight assists and four digs, while Washington led the team with 10 digs. 
 
The first set was close early in the set as neither team had a lead of more than two points.  With the score tied at 10, ASU (1-2) scored the next three points to take a 13-10 lead and outscored the Lady Tigers (0-3) 12-8 during the rest of the set to take an early 1-0 lead.  Three players had two kills, Lyle, Ofodile and junior outside hitter Jademone Jones, while Masoe added five assists and two digs and Washington had three digs.
 
After an early 2-0 ASU lead, the Lady Tigers scored the next two points to tie at two.  The next couple of points went back-and-forth.  ASU had a 6-5 lead and scored the next three points to take a four point lead, 9-5.  ASU outscored SSU 15-9 to take a 24-14 lead, but the Lady Tigers would not give up scoring the next four points before ASU closed it out with the final point of the set to take a 2-0 lead.  Masoe led the Lady Tigers with two kills and five assists, while Ofodile added two kills and Washington added six digs.
 
The Hornets got off to a fast start scoring the first four points in the third set and had a 17-9 lead.  ASU scored two of the next three points to take a 19-10 lead, but the Lady Tigers scored the next four points to cut the lead to five, 19-14.  The Hornets scored six of the last eight points to win the set and the match.  Lyle and Tam led the way with two kills each, while Masoe and Littlejohn added two assists each.
