Terel Hall and Hakeem Champaigne scored 12 points apiece to lead Savannah State to a 63-52 victory over Florida A&M in Tiger Arena. Champaigne added a team-high eight rebounds.

The crowd of 1,210 saw the Tigers lead from start to finish.

SSU jumped out to a 14-6 lead before the Rattlers (1-26, 1-13) rallied with five straight points to get within three at the 10:06 mark.

A 10-4 run put the Tigers ahead by nine with just under five minutes left but FAMU would not go away and pulled within 28-23 with 1:22 left.

A 3-pointer by
Treyvon Francis and a free throw from
Alante Fenner put SSU ahead 32-23 and the Tigers took a 32-25 edge into the half.

Javaris Jenkins started the second half with a 3-pointer that put the Tigers ahead by 10. Jenkins' basket started a 13-4 run that increased Savannah State's lead to 45-29 with 15:37 remaining.

FAMU whittled their deficit to 12 but eight unanswered points by the Tigers resulted in a 55-35 lead with 8:40 left.

A pair of free throws by Hall with 5:16 remaining gave SSU their largest lead of the game at 60-39.

FAMU closed the contest with a 13-3 spurt but never got closer than 11.

Jamal Norman added 10 points for the Tigers.

SSU (7-19, 3-9) shot 44.1 percent from the field but was once again plagued by poor free throw shooting (35 percent).

The Tigers out-rebounded Florida A&M 43 to 36.

Jermaine Ruttley led the Rattlers with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

TIP INSSavannah State broke a four game home losing streak with the victory over the Rattlers. it was SSU's first home win since beating Hampton on January 24.
Florida A&M remains winless on the road (0-15) this season.
