Tigers Fall to Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Ut.- Utah placed six players in double figures as the Utes ran away with a 99-53 victory over visiting Savannah State in a game played at the Huntsman Center.

Utah's shooters had the hot hand all game, shooting 60.7 percent from the field and making 52.4 percent of their 3-point attempts.

Kilo Lenjo scored the first eight points for Savannah State with a layup sandwiched in between a pair of 3-pointers.

Lenjo's last 3-pointer put the Tigers behind 9-8 with 17:51 left in the first period.

Utah responded with a 26-0 run that put them ahead 35-8 with 6:46 remaining in the half.

Playing their last game of 2015, the Tigers could not recover.

SSU freshman reserve guard Dexter McClanahan hit a 3-pointer for the Tigers with 6:25 left to snap their scoreless drought.

McClanahan's shot started a 12-3 run by SSU which whittled their deficit to 38-20 with 5:27 left.

SSU trailed by 18 with just over two minutes left in the first period but Utah finished the half with nine unanswered points for a 51-24 lead at intermission.

The crowd of 11,911 saw the Utes start the second period with an 8-0 to increase their lead to 59-24.

Savannah State responded with a jumper by Isaiah Felder and a 3-pointer by Chris Martin to get within 59-29 at the 16:15 mark.

The Tigers trailed by 30 with just over 14 minutes remaining after a jumper by Martin but would not get any closer the rest of the night as Utah answered with a 12-0 run.

Savannah State was held without a field goal the final 4:18 of the contest.

Kilo led SSU (4-6) with 14 points. Martin added 13 points and five rebounds while Felder chipped in 10 points.

The Tigers shot 32 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 42 to 26.

Kyle Kuzma had 18 points for Utah (8-2).
