DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Savannah State University volleyball team (0-27, 0-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell to Bethune-Cookman University (9-15, 6-0 MEAC) 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14) in Moore Gymnasium on Friday night.
Freshman outside hitter
Makayla Tam led the team with six kills and added six digs, while junior setter
Caitlynn Masoe led the team with 18 assists and added two kills and nine digs.

Briana Littlejohn led the team with 12 digs, while junior libero
Alexis Washington added eight digs. Junior middle blocker
Gabrielle Nathaniel added five kills, a service ace, seven digs and a block assist, while freshman outside hitter
Chinenye Ofodile and senior middle blocker
Christian Lyle each added five kills.
A service ace from Masoe gave the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first set, but the Wildcats scored the next three points to capture a 3-1 lead. SSU quickly tied the score at three by scoring the next two points. After each team scored four points to keep the match tied at seven, B-CU scored the next two points to take a 9-7 lead. SSU scored three of the next four points to tie the match at 10. B-CU scored the next five points to take a 15-10 lead, and outscored SSU 10-7 during the rest of the match to take a 1-0 match lead. Tam and Ofodile led the team with two kills, while Masoe added five assists and Littlejohn added six digs.
B-CU scored the first six points in the second frame for a 6-0 lead and outscored SSU 19-16 during the rest of the set to take a 2-0 match lead heading into intermission. Lyle led the team with three kills, Masoe added six assists and five digs.
Like the first set, Masoe led the final stanza with a service ace to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead. B-CU scored the next three points to take a 3-1 lead and outscored SSU 22-13 during the rest of the set to win the set and the match. Nathaniel led the team with three kills, while Masoe added seven assists and Washington added four digs.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Rhea Simon with 13 kills, Hazel Ortiz-Rosado with 37 assists and Normarie Rolon-Soto with 15 digs.
The Lady Tigers continue its Florida trip traveling to Tallahassee on Sunday at 3 p.m. before returning home for the final three matches starting with North Carolina A&T State on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. in Willcox-Wiley Gym.
