SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University volleyball team travels to Charleston, S.C., to face The Citadel on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and returns home to face Alabama State for "Dig Pink" on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium  to finish its non-conference schedule.
 
Junior middle blocker Gabrielle Nathaniel leads the team with 98 kills, 1.40 kills per set, and with 28 total blocks, 0.40 blocks per set.  The Ontario, Canada native is third in digs with 103, 1.47 digs per set, and with 12 service aces, 0.17 service ace per set.  
 
Junior setter Caitlynn Masoe leads the team with 271 assists, 3.87 assist per set, and is second on the team with 109 digs, 1.56 digs per set, with 18 service aces, 0.27 service ace per set, and with 22 total blocks, 0.31 blocks per set.  The Long Beach, Calif., native is third on the team with 89 kills, 1.27 kills per set.
 
Junior libero Alexis Washington leads the team with 225 digs, 3.12 digs per set, and is tied for third on the team with 12 service aces, 0.17 service aces per set, while freshman outside hitter Makayla Tam is second on the team with 91 kills, 1.38 kills per set, and leads the team with 18 service aces, 0.27 service ace per set, and has added 70 digs and 13 total blocks.
 
The last time out, the Lady Tigers (0-24) fell to Mercer 3-0 (25-14, 25-7, 25-23) last Wednesday at Willcox-Wiley Gym.  Nathaniel led the team with six kills, with four blocks and 10 digs, while Tam added four kills, five digs, and a service ace, and Washington added nine digs, two assists and a service ace.
 
The Citadel went 0-2 last weekend with losses to UNC Greensboro (3-0) and Western Carolina (3-1).  The Lady Bulldogs are looking to snap their seven match losing streak against the Tigers and are 6-17 overall on the season.  The Bulldogs are led by Moriah Smith with 280 kills, 3.37 kills per set, Rachel Keefer with 563 assists, 8.40 assists per set, and Samantha Espy with 365 digs, 4.35 digs per set.
 
The Bulldogs and the Lady Tigers met earlier this season on Sept. 22 in Willcox-Wiley Gym where The Citadel won 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-13).  Tam recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs and added two blocks, while Washington led the team with 15 digs, and Masoe led the team with 19 assists and added eight digs during the match.  The Citadel was led by Megan Sowell with 16 kills, Keefer with 34 assists and with 13 digs.
 
Alabama State (12-12) went 2-0 last weekend defeating Arkansas – Pine Bluff (3-0) and Texas Southern (3-2) and is currently on a six-match winning streak.  ASU travels to South Carolina State on Tuesday before facing the Lady Tigers on Wednesday. The Hornets are led by Rachel Smith with 166 kills, 1.95 kills per set, Kori Kutsch and Riley MacDonald with 387 assists each, 4.55 assists per set, and Scout Wonsang with 243 digs, 2.96 digs per set. 
 
The Hornets and the Lady Tigers also have met on the court this season on Aug. 29 at the Kennesaw State Invitational in Kennesaw, Ga.  The Hornets won the match 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16).  Senior middle blocker Christian Lyle led the team in the match with five kills and with two total blocks, while Masoe led the team with 12 assists and Washington led the team with 10 digs.  ASU was led by Kimeko Bennett with 11 kills, Kutsch with 22 assists and Kayla Torres with nine digs during the match.
 
The Lady Tigers return to the road and to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play traveling to Florida this weekend.  SSU faces Bethune-Cookman on Friday at 7 p.m. in Daytona Beach and Florida A&M on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Tallahassee.
