BALTIMORE, Md.- Savannah State had a season-high 313 yards of offense but could not overcome three turnovers that led to Morgan State scoring 21 points in a 42-3 setback to the Bears in a game played at Hughes Stadium.

The crowd of 2,479 saw Morgan State score 35 unanswered points in the second half.

After a scoreless first quarter where Savannah State quarterback Arshon Spaulding had two passes intercepted, both teams found the scoreboard in the second quarter.

Morgan State quarterback Moses Skillon scored on a three yard run to cap a 7-play, 33 yard drive with 14:55 on the clock. Chris Moller added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

On their second possession of the second quarter SSU appeared to have scored a touchdown when Spaulding threw a 17 yard pass to running back Richard Williams with 8:06 remaining but it was called back because of offensive pass interference.

The Tigers had to settle on a 28 yard field goal by
John Barron with 7:21 left to cap a 11-play, 69 yard drive.

The key play on the drive was a 42 yard scamper by Williams that saw the ball go from the Tigers 25 to the MSU 33.

Morgan State led 7-3 at the half.

The Bears scored touchdowns on their first two drives of the third quarter to increase their advantage to 21-3 as Skillon ran for a 42 yard touchdown and Orlando Jones scored on a three yard run.

SSU's offense was held to negative six yards in the third quarter while the Bears had 184.

Morgan State scored on their first possession of the fourth when Skillon threw a 34 yard touchdown pass to Marcolm Banks with 13:06 remaining.

Savannah State drove to the MSU 30 on their next series but the drive stalled. Barron's 50 yard field goal attempt missed as Morgan State's Peterson Janvier returned it 100 yards for a touchdown to make the score 35-3.

Two series later, SSU quarterback
Leon Prunty was sacked and fumbled the ball. It was recovered by Morgan State's Brandon Griffin who ran it in 30 yards for a touchdown with 5:38 left in the contest.

Prunty threw a interception on the following SSU possession with just under four minutes left.

Williams ran for 69 yards on 11 carries for the Tigers while Prunty, who saw his first action of the season, came off the bench to pass for 114 yards. Prunty completed eight of 19 pass attempts. Ker Sean Wilson had six receptions for 69 yards.

Defensively, Leonardo Myers and
Trevion Ashford had six tackles apiece.

Skillon led the Bears with 104 yards rushing and two touchdowns while passing for 134 yards and a touchdown. Andrew King caught four passes for 22 yards while Damare Whitaker had a game high nine tackles.

SSU had 20 first downs and controlled the clock for 31:32 while Morgan State (3-2, 3-0) had 14 first downs and had possession for 27:21.

The Bears had 366 yards of offense but made 16 penalties for 166 yards. SSU had 12 penalties for 80 yards.

The Morgan State defense had four sacks, intercepted three passes and recovered a fumble.

Savannah State (1-4, 1-2) returns home on October 17 for a Homecoming date with North Carolina Central (2-3) who enters the game coming off of a 27-24 road victory over Florida A&M.
