Tiger Bites
· The Tigers and Rattlers will meet for the 7th time with Florida A&M leading the series, 6-0. The series dates back to 1927 when FAMU defeated SSU, 18-0.

· SSU and Florida A&M are the only two winless teams left in the MEAC with 0-5 records. After today's game, there will be only one. The Tigers are trying to snap 14-game losing streak, while the Rattlers are vying to break their 8-game streak.

· Norfolk State's 14 points in its 14-7 win over SSU was the fewest points the Tigers' defense have allowed in a game since 2008 when SSU gave up 10 points to North Carolina Central University. The Tigers loss that game, 10-7.

· In its two MEAC games this season, the Tigers have been outscored by its opponents 42-7 in the first quarter. However, SSU has outscored its MEAC opponents 10-7 in the second, third and fourth quarters combined.

· The Tigers and Rattlers will meet for the 7th time with Florida A&M leading the series, 6-0. The series dates back to 1927 when FAMU defeated SSU 18-0.
· After five games, the Tigers are ranked nationally in several categories: SSU is 6th nationally and leads the MEAC in fumble recovered with 8; 23rd nationally and 3rd in the MEAC in punt returns, averaging 12.7 yards; and is 47th nationally and 3rd in the MEAC in time of possession, averaging 30:53 per game.

· Junior wide out Cantrell Frazier has accounted for three of the seven offensive touchdowns for the Tigers this season. The Fulton County, Ga. native caught two touchdowns and ran for one. In his first two seasons, Frazier played on the offensive side of the ball. He began this season on defense as a defensive back, but after one game, returned to offense as a wide receiver.

· The Tigers have yet to lead in any games this season. After the first five games, the closest SSU has come to leading is a 21-21 halftime score against Fort Valley.

The Game
Savannah State

Never before has a Savannah State football team encountered a Florida A&M team this vulnerable.

FAMU (0-5 overall, 0-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) has lost seven consecutive games at Bragg Memorial Stadium. The Rattlers have not won at home since Nov. 10, 2012, when they squeaked past North Carolina Central, 22-21, thanks to FAMU kicker Chase Varnadore's 36-yard field goal with 2 minutes to play in the game.

SSU will try to extend FAMU's woes when the teams meet at 5 p.m. Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla. The game will be radio-broadcast by WHCJ 90.3 FM.

SSU (0-5 overall, 0-2 MEAC) is 0-6 in the series against FAMU. The Tigers lost, 27-14, to the Rattlers last season in Savannah.

SSU is not a heavy hitter. The Tigers have a 14-game losing streak and have lost 25 consecutive MEAC games. But FAMU also is on the ropes. Can the Tigers deliver a knockout punch?

FAMU coach Earl Holmes is the first football coach in the Rattlers' tradition-rich history to begin a season 0-5. The former FAMU star linebacker, who had a 10-year NFL career, most notably with the Pittsburgh Steelers, reached the dubious mark after FAMU's 24-9 loss to Morgan State last Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla.

SSU is coming off a 14-7 Homecoming loss to Norfolk State last Saturday at T.A. Wright Stadium.

RUNNING GAME WOES
Against Norfolk State, SSU ran for minus-1 yard in the first half and finished the game with 13 yards on 23 carries. Wilson said the lack of production is unacceptable.

Through five games combined, no SSU player has run for 100 yards. Joshua Berry, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound freshman from Long County High School in nearby Ludowici, has a team-high 94 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Florida A&M
Rattlers quarterback Damien Fleming, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior from Jacksonville, Fla., is 62-of-117 passing (53 percent) for 599 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions. His favorite target is Brandon Norwood, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound freshman from Atlanta, who has made 17 catches for 244 yards.

Running back Gerald Hearns, a 5-foot-9, 205-pound freshman from West Palm Beach, Fla., has a team-high 275 yards rushing on 68 carries.

Defensively, FAMU is led by defensive back Jacques Bryant, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound redshirt sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla., who has made a team-high 23 tackles.

Perhaps the Rattlers' most dangerous player is on special teams. Varnadore, who kicked the field goal to beat NCCU the last time FAMU won at home in 2012, on Monday was named the MEAC's Special Teams Player of the Week. He was 3 of 3 on field goals, including a school-record 53-yarder against Morgan State. Varnadore's 53-yard field goal broke the record 52-yarder set in 1975 by former NFL punter Greg Coleman.
