THE GAME:
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Lady Tigers open up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with two home games this weekend. First on the docket is perennial MEAC power Florida A&M.
 
In the two years Savannah State have competed in the MEAC, they are 0-4 against Florida A&M. The Lady Tigers will play the Rattlers one more time this season. They are slated for an October 27 game in Tallahassee, Florida.
 
SSU opened 2013 home play on Wednesday night with a visit from The Citadel. In an exciting third set, the Lady Tigers dropped a close 23-25 decision. The Lady Tigers fell to 0-16 on the season with the loss.
 
Sophomore Bianca Brochu leads the Lady Tigers with 71 kills, averaging 1.45 kills per game. Senior Bryana Gadis is having a stellar final season. She has 69 kills, averaging 1.41 kills per game. Gadis leads the team in digs with 102 and in points with 79.5.
 
SSU will get boost with the return of freshman libero Alexis Washington off the injury list. Washington has 87 digs on the season and has shared duties at the libero position with senior Bridgette Stephens.
 
This is the 28th season of volleyball at Savannah State. Interim head coach Jolanta Graham enters her first full year at the helm. Graham took over midway through the 2012 season. The Lady Tigers are a 10 person squad this year with six returners and four newcomers.

INJURY REPORT:
Freshman Gabrielle Nathaniel will miss this weekend's games due to an undisclosed injury. Nathaniel is scheduled to return in October.

SCOUTING REPORT:
The Florida A&M Rattlers come to Savannah with a 3-6 overall record. Friday's match will also be the Rattlers first MEAC game of the season.

The Rattlers were picked to win the MEAC Southern Division in a preseason MEAC poll after a 10-0 conference mark and a 15-10 overall record in 2012.

Florida A&M have played a very challenging nonconference schedule prior to Friday's conference game with Savannah State. The schedule has included games against #16 Western Kentucky, Georgia Tech, University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Tulane and North Dakota.

They are led by Katherine Huanec who has 101 kills on the season and is averaging 2.97 per game. Ginna Lopez-Chavez leads in hitting percentage with a .384, averaging 2.65 kills per set. She also leads the team in blocks with 30. On defense the Rattlers are led by Joanie Del Castillo, who has 152 digs on the season.
