RADFORD, Va. - In the second and final day of the Radford Classic, the Savannah State volleyball team dropped matches to Tulane and Radford.

At the midway point of the 2013 season, the Lady Tigers are 0-15. They play their first home game of the season September 25, against The Citadel. First serve in Wilcox-Wiley is set for 6 p.m.

SSU opened Saturday with an early game against the Tulane Green Wave. In the first set, the Green Wave jumped to a 12-4 lead.

The Lady Tigers struggled offensively as Tulane registered four straight kills for a 17-5 lead. Freshman Caitlynn Masoe stopped the run with a kill on a set from Williams.

SSU managed five more points in the set, but Tulane's Annie Shurtz recorded back-to-back kills to give the home team a 25-10 set win.

The Green Wave capitalized on the momentum in the second set, jumping out to a 14-8 lead, prompting an SSU timeout.

Out of the pause, the Lady Tigers were unable to record another score as Tulane took a 2-0 lead with a 25-8 set win.

SSU continued to battle in the third set, fighting back from an early 4-10 deficient to cut Tulane's lead to three points, 13-10, behind a 6-2 run. The run was led by a service ace from Williams.

SSU sophomore's Bianca Brochu and Christian Lyle recorded kills in a 3-0 run later that kept the Lady Tigers within three points of the Green Wave's lead.

Later, Tulane put some distance between them and SSU with three straight service aces from Sarah Strasner for a 20-14 lead. Out of a timeout, the Lady Tigers put up two more points, as Tulane registered their 12th match win of the season with a 25-16 set win.

Brochu and senior Bryana Gadis led the Lady Tigers with five kills apiece. Masoe and senior Bridgette Stephens led SSU on defense with seven digs apiece.

In a rematch of Friday's game, and SSU's first in the tournament, the Lady Tigers fell to Radford in three sets in Saturday's nightcap.

Completely over powered in the first set, SSU managed only five points as the Highlanders took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-5 set win.

In the second set, trailing 9-18, the Lady Tigers fared better down the stretch behind kills from Brochu and Lyle. Radford closed out the set with a 25-13 win on a kill from Cheyanne James.

The story remained the same in the final set as SSU dropped the match with a 12-25 score Brochu, Gadis and Lyle each had two kills in the set.
