Louis Leads SSU To 4th Straight Win

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Arnold Louis scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to power Savannah State to a 56-49 win over North Carolina A&T in Tiger Arena.
The Tigers won despite going the final 7:40 without a field goal.
SSU led by 16 with 12 minutes remaining but the Aggies scored nine straight points during a 18-5 run to make the score 49-46 with 1:54 on the clock.
Two free throws by Khiry White and another from Robert Burger gave the Tigers (16-10, 10-2) and 52-46 cushion.
A 3-pointer by the Aggies Austin Witter cut SSU's lead to 52-49 with 18 seconds on the clock but Savannah State sealed the win with a free throw from White and three from Louis in the final seconds.
Jyles Smith only scored two points for SSU but his play was off the bench was valuable, ending the game with 8 rebounds, 7 blocks and 3 steals.
The Tigers shot 45.5 percent from the field in the first half but went cold in the second period, shooting 28.6 percent.
A&T (13-14, 6-6) was no better, shooting 27.7 percent from the floor for the game.
In the first half, the Aggies raced out to a 12-6 lead but then went cold as Savannah State answered with a 16-1 run to go ahead 22-13 with 7:17 left.
A&T got their deficit down to five with 4:47 remaining but SSU out-scored the Aggies 10-3 the rest of the half to take a 33-21 lead into the break.
The Aggies, who out-rebounded Savannah State 34 to 33, was led by Lamont Middleton's 9 points.
North Carolina A&T got their deficit down to nine points early in the second half but a layup and a free throw by Rashad Hassan and a 3-pointer by Preston Blackman put the Tigers ahead 39-24 with 15:56 left in the game.
