Tigers Lose To Utah

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Ut.- The road woes continue for Savannah State as the Tigers fell to Utah 71-57 in the final game of the Global Hoops Sports Showcase played at Huntsman Center before a crowd of 7,568.
 
SSU (2-7) scored the first four points of the contest with baskets from Hikeem Champaigne and Alante Fenner.
 
The Tigers would lead 10-8 but Utah answered with a 10-0 run to take a eight point lead with 12:35 on the clock.
 
Savannah State would slice their deficit to four and eventually pull within 26-23 with five minutes remaining after a jumper by Champaigne.
 
But the Utes would finish the half with a 12-5 spurt and take a 38-28 lead into intermission.
 
SSU stayed within striking distance of Utah for most of the second period but the Utes began to pull away during the final six minutes.
 
Utah led 57-50 with 6:36 remaining but held the Tigers without a field goal during a 7-1 mini-run to go ahead by 13.
 
A jumper by Deven Williams sliced SSU's deficit to 66-57 with 1:56 left but the Utes ended the game making 5 of 6 free throw shots.
 
Utah ended the game making 25 of 27 free throw attempts while the Tigers were 9 of 12.
 
The Utes beat SSU on the boards 34 to 29.
 
Savannah State, who shot 43.1 percent from the floor, received 16 points from Williams while Champaigne, a juco transfer, had a season-high 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
Jordan Loveridge led Utah (5-0) with 25 points and nine rebounds.
