Volleyball Drops MEAC Road Game To Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In the first game of a two-game road trip, Savannah State volleyball fell to Bethune-Cookman in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match on Friday night in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Sophomore's Christian Lyle and Justice Dilworth led the Lady Tigers in the loss. Lyle led the team with eight kills, a .364 hitting percentage and two blocks. Dilworth registered seven kills, two service aces and seven digs. Senior Bryana Gadis also had seven digs.

Cookman was led by Destiny Hudson who recorded 10 kills and seven digs. Jennifer Jimenz led the defense with 11 digs.

SSU falls to 0-25 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Cookman improved to 5-22 and 4-2 in the MEAC.

After the Lady Tigers dropped the first two sets, 18-25 and 12-25, they took the fight to the final set.

Trailing 10-14, SSU got an offensive spark on a Cookman error that led to a 5-0 run on four service points from freshman Caitlynn Masoe, tying the game at 15. The Wildcats responded with two points and a 17-15 lead.

Down the stretch, BCU took a 23-18 lead on a 4-1 run. The Lady Tigers answered the run with a kill from Masoe. Hudson put the Wildcats up 24-19 on a kill, to which Dilworth responded with a kill to cut the home team's lead to 24-20.

Lyle recorded a kill for SSU's final point. Rhea Simon registered the match point for Bethune on a kill. Cookman took the match with a 25-21 game win.

SSU plays their final road game of the 2013 season on Sunday, October 27, against Florida A&M. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
