Volleyball Drops MEAC Match To Lady Aggies

GREENSBORO, N.C. – In the fourth game of a five game road stretch, the Savannah State volleyball squad dropped a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match to North Carolina A&T State on Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina.

For the fourth consecutive game sophomore Justice Dilworth led the Lady Tigers. Dilworth and senior Bryana Gadis each had eight kills in the loss. Gadis led the team in hitting percentage (.368), while freshman Alexis Washington led the team defensively with 11 digs.

Brooke Stamnes led the Lady Aggies with eight kills, while Aleena McDaniel led in digs with nine. ­

SSU falls to 0-22 overall and 0-5 in the MEAC, while N.C. A&T improves to 4-18 and 3-2 in the conference.

The Lady Tigers played it to the wire in the opening two sets. Trailing 13-19 in the first game, Gadis sparked a 3-0 run with a kill to cut the Lady Aggies lead to 19-16. N.C. A&T finished out the first game with a 25-20 win behind three costly SSU errors.

In the second game SSU got within one point of N.C. A&T's lead (18-19) late in the set behind a service ace from freshman Caitlynn Masoe. Prompting the Lady Aggies to take a timeout.

Down the stretch, A&T took a 2-0 match lead behind a 6-2 run. Stamnes recorded the game winning point with a kill for a 25-20 win.

The Lady Aggies used the momentum to seal up their third conference win with a 25-18 win in the third set.

The Lady Tigers conclude the road stretch with a nonconference match against The Citadel on October 15 in Charleston, South Carolina. They return home on Sunday, October 20 for a second nonconference match against Alabama State. First serve in Willcox-Wiley is set for 1 p.m.
