Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, Tex. – In the final two games for Savannah State in the University of Texas Arlington Hilton Invitational, the Lady Tigers fell to Stephen F. Austin 0-3, and to the University of Texas-Pan American 0-3.
In Saturday's first match, the Lady Jacks of Stephen F. Austin took a 1-0 set lead with a quick 25-7 score in the opening game. The Lady Jacks had 11 kills in the set.
SFA's offensive prowess continued into the second set as they quickly jumped out to a 9-4 lead. An attack error prompted a 7-0 run for the Lady Tigers midway through the game. A service ace from
Asiha Williams cut the Lady Jacks lead to three points, 16-13. SFA answered with two kills.
Newcomer
Jasmine Waite fired back with a kill on an assist from
Ashlee Butler, setting the score at 18-14. An attack error from the Lady Jacks gave SSU their last point of the set, as two service aces and three kills propelled SFA to a 25-15 win.
In the final set, SFA jumped out a 15-3 lead behind several errors from the Lady Tigers. The powerful SFA offense held the Lady Tigers to only 11 points, as the Lady Jacks sealed up the match win with a 25-11 set win.
Waite and
Chikia Jones each led the tigers with 4 kills apiece, while
Bryana Gadis led in digs with nine.
Keandra Lewis and Butler each added five digs.
In the second and final game Saturday, the Lady Tigers found themselves down two sets quick as the Lady Broncs' of UT Pan American beat SSU 25-9, and 25-10 in the opening two sets.
The Lady Tigers came alive midway through the third set. Down 3-9, a kill from Waite set up an 8-3 run that put SSU within three points of the Lady Bucs, 10-13.
A 10-4 run that began with a kill from Maria Kliefoth gave Pan American a commanding 23-14 lead, but the tenacious Lady Tigers continued to fight with a kill and two great serves from newcomer
Justice Dilworth that resulted in a 3-0, short-lived run. A service error ended the game with a 25-17 Lady Broncs' win.
Gadis led the Lady Tigers with four kills and seven digs.
Kaneisha Hamilton and
Bridgette Stephens also had seven digs. Dilworth ended with three kills.
Gadis was named to the All-Tournament team for the 2012 UTA Hilton Invitational.
The Lady Tigers return home next weekend for the Tiger Invitational. They will play their first home match against Kennesaw State on March 31 at 9 a.m. in Tiger Arena.
