SSU Falls To North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Savannah State volleyball squad fell in three sets to North Carolina A&T in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match in Greensboro, North Carolina Friday night.

Jasmine Waite and Bryana Gadis led the Lady Tigers in the loss with five kills apiece. Senior Kaneisha Hamilton led the team in digs with 16.
The Lady Tigers fall to 0-33 and 0-9 in conference play. The Lady Aggies improve to 2-29 and 2-7 in the MEAC.

In the opening set, the Lady Tigers tied the match up at three on a kill from Waite, but the Lady Aggies bounced back with a 7-2 run to take a 10-5 lead. Out of a timeout, N.C. A&T extended their lead further with a 5-1 run, taking a 15-7 advantage.

Leading 19-9, the Lady Aggies pushed out to a 1-0 match lead on an 8-3 run and a 25-12 set win. The Lady Aggies used the momentum from the end of the first set to jump out to a 3-1 lead in the second set.

A kill from Waite tied the match up at four. The Lady Aggies again extended their lead, taking a 13-9 advantage on a SSU service error.

A costly SSU error gave the home team a 17-12 lead, prompting an SSU timeout. N.C. A&T pushed out to a 21-15 lead behind several kills and some SSU errors. Aleena McDaniel served the final four points to give the Lady Aggies a 2-0 match lead on a 25-15 set win.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set behind two service aces from Gadis and a kill from Asiha Williams. SSU continued to push taking a 7-2 lead, but N.C. A&T tied the set at nine, with a 7-2 run.

An SSU error gave the Lady Aggies a 10-9 lead. Despite the stellar start, the Lady Tigers struggled midway through the set as N.C. A&T jumped out to a 16-12 lead.

Later in the set, the Lady Aggies pushed out to a 20-16 lead, but Ashlee Butler cut the home teams lead to three, 20-17, with a kill. Despite a late push from SSU, the Lady Aggies sealed up the 3-0 match win with a 25-18 game win.

Savannah State travels to Durham, North Carolina Sunday for their final match of the 2012 season. First serve against North Carolina Central is set for 1 p.m.
