Lady Tigers Fall to North Carolina A&T

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State Lady Tigers fell to North Carolina A&T 0-3 Sunday afternoon in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup Wilcox-Wiley gym.
The Lady Aggies garnered their first win of the season, while the Lady Tigers fall to 0-25 and 0-5 in the MEAC. Bryana Gadis led the team with seven kills and five digs. Kaneisha Hamilton led in digs with 16.
In the opening set, a kill from SSU freshman Jasmine Waite gave the Lady Tigers a 4-1 lead early. Some costly errors from SSU helped the Lady Aggies to cut the home teams lead to two points, 6-4. Two service aces from A&T tied the set up at six, moments later.
A 5-2 run from A&T gave the visitors an 11-8 lead midway through the first set. Two kills from Gadis and Christian Lyle cut the Lady Aggies lead to one point, 11-10.
Behind some costly SSU errors, the Lady Aggies extended their lead to four points 19-15, prompting an SSU timeout. The Lady Tigers continued to battle, but fell as the Lady Aggies took the first set, 18-25, on three straight service aces from Andrea Evans.
The Lady Aggies took a quick 5-0 lead in the second set, but the Lady Tigers fought back with a 5-0 run tying the match behind two service aces from Gadis and a kill from Waite. Later, the Lady Aggies took a 9-6 lead with back-to-back kills.
A&T extended their lead to four points, 10-14, but the Lady Tigers took advantage of some Lady Aggies errors. Gadis cut the visitors lead to one point, 15-16, with a kill on a set from freshman Justice Dilworth. The Lady Aggies took a two point lead, but SSU battled back as Dilworth tied the game at 18 with a kill.
Behind a 6-2 run, the Lady Aggies sealed up a close 25-20 set win to take a 2-0 match lead. In the third set the Lady Tigers struggled early as the Lady Aggies jumped out to a 14-5 lead. A&T pushed their lead to 22-13 towards the end of the match behind several SSU errors.
Two kills from A&T gave the visitors a 24-13 lead. Gadis answered with a kill on a set from Asiha Williams, but a kill from April Mcrae sealed up the match win for A&T with a 25-14 game win.
The Lady Tigers return to action next Sunday as they host Alabama State for a non-conference matchup. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
