SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Rashad Hassan's dunk with 1:12 left in the game proved to be the winning points as Savannah State improved to 3-1 in the MEAC with a 57-55 win over Morgan State in Tiger Arena.
The crowd of 1,622 witnessed a game that featured 13 lead changes and eight ties.
Morgan State held a 53-49 lead with 2:46 remaining after a jumper by Ian Chiles but twenty seconds later SSU's Preston Blackmon drilled a 3-pointer to cut the Tigers deficit to one.
Another jumper by Chiles put the Bears ahead 55-52 with 2:04 left but another 3-pointer by Blackmon knotted the score at 55 with 1:52 on the clock.
After a turnover by Morgan State, Blackmon fed the ball to Hassan who finished the play with a dunk.
MSU missed a pair of shots with four seconds left and SSU's
Richard Conner got the defensive rebound to preserve the win.
Hassan led a trio of SSU players in double figures with 15 points. Blackmon added 12 points and eight assists while
Deric Rudolph scored12 points, all in the second half.
Arnold Louis had seven rebounds.
DeWayne Jackson led Morgan State (3-10) with a game-high 23 points. The Bears fall to 1-1 in conference play.
SSU led by as many as six points in the first half before Morgan State scored seven unanswered points to take a 23-22 lead with 5:26 left.
The game was tied at 29 at the half.
The Tigers (7-9) built a seven point advantage in the second period before a 14-2 Bears run that gave Morgan State a 47-42 lead with 9:35 remaining.
Despite the loss, Morgan State shot 61.8 percent from the floor while SSU shot 43.4 percent.
