SSU Volleyball Loses to Bethune Cookman and Samford

Daytona Beach, Fla.—Savannah State University volleyball team lost to Bethune Cookman University (0-3) and Samford University (0-3) at the Bethune Cookman Tournament on Friday, September 16.

Game one, the Lady Tigers fell 19-25, 9-25 and then 13-25 to the Lady Wildcats in Moore Gymnasium.

Overall, SSU recorded 16 kills, and 15 assists, but BCU contested with 38 kills, and 32 assists earning its their third win over Savannah State this season.

SSU led the game in blocks recording seven over BCU's two.

Lady Tiger Bianca Helton led the team in kills (6) and Bryana Gadis trailed with five.

Linda Nwabuko recorded a game-high 12 kills for BCU.

Savannah State will play Bethune Cookman again on October 2 for its first home game and conference game of the season. First serve scheduled for 1 p.m. in Willcox Wiley Gymnasium.

Game two, SSU fell 11-25, 16-25, and 19-25 to Samford University. The Lady bulldogs challenged SSU offensively recording 43 kills, 34 assists, and nine service aces in a three set span.

Savannah State fought the entire way, ending the game with 17 kills, 14 assists, and 22 digs.

Setter, Ashlee Butler led the game with seven digs, and Bianca Helton led the SSU in kills (5).

Lauren Hutchinson of Samford earned a game- high of 12 kills and Casey Garvey led in assists (22).

SSU will play its next game tomorrow, September 17 against Florida Atlantic University at 11:30 a.m.
