SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Steve Davenport era in Savannah State football started on August 1 when the Tigers reported for preseason camp.
Over 90 student-athletes came to camp where they checked in dorms, had a team meeting and a welcome back dinner.
After a series of team meetings on August 2, the team started the first day of camp on August 3 at 6:30 a.m. with a campus run called “Good Morning Coach Davenport." The team held their first practice at 5:30 that afternoon at T. A. Wright Stadium.
The squad practice in helmets for two days and in shells on August 5 and 6.
Media Day was held May 7.
Due to the ongoing renovations at the stadium, practices have been moved to an off-campus location.
The biggest player reporting to camp was freshman offensive lineman
Shaquan Hicks (6-4, 345) of Sandersville, GA. The smallest player in camp is junior wide receiver
Antonio Proctor (5-4, 154) of Savannah, GA. Five players are listed at 6-foot-6 in height.
