SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State shot 53.2 percent from the field and
Deric Rudolph came off the bench to score 21 points to lead the Tigers to a 80-42 win over visiting Coastal Georgia in Tiger Arena.
12 of the 13 players that saw action scored for SSU. Rudolph made seven 3-pointers.
SSU opened the game by scoring the first 11 points and had runs of 16-0 and 9-0 to take a 36-8 lead with 4:51 left in the opening period.
The Tigers extended their advantage to 40-10 late in the half and led 42-12 at the break.
SSU scored the first five points of the second half as part of a 16-5 run to make the score 58-17 with 15:41 remaining after a 3-pointer by Rudolph.
The Tigers led 68-29 with just over six minutes left but the Mariners chipped away at SSU's lead and cut their deficit to 30 with 4:50 on the clock.
SSU finished the game with a 10-0 run.
Cedric Smith scored 10 points for the Tigers (4-7) while Preston Blackmon added 10 assists.
The Mariners (2-9) were led by Marcus Morrison's 12 points.
Savannah State won the rebounding battle 41 to 27.
Coastal shot 29.8 percent from the field and made 23 turnovers.
