Savannah State Rolls Past Allen

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State set a modern-day school record as they shot 80 percent from the floor in the second half in a 77-43 win over NAIA opponent Allen at Tiger Arena before a crowd of 1003.

The Tigers hit 20-of-25 shots from the field in the second period and made all three of their 3-point attempts.

SSU did not do a bad job in the first half, shooting 54.5 percent from the floor.

Chris Linton, who was 6-of-7 from the field, paced SSU with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Jones added 13 points.

Savannah State improved to 10-11 overall and 10-1 when playing at Tiger Arena.

Byron Littlejohn led Allen (3-17) with 13 points.

SSU led 4-3 early in the game but put together a 12-5 run to go ahead by eight with 9:02 left before the half.

The Yellow Jackets answered with seven straight points to close within 16-15 but a 14-6 spurt by SSU gave the home team a 30-21 advantage with 2:37 remaining.

Allen ended the half with five unanswered points to trail the Tigers 30-26 at intermission.

SSU started the second period with eight straight points as part of a 13-2 run that gave the Tigers a 43-28 lead with 14:53 on the clock.

A 3-pointer by Littlejohn would cut Allen's deficit to 12 with 13:13 left but that would be as close as the Yellow Jackets would get as SSU reeled off nine straight runs to put Allen away.

Leading by 18 with 8:46 left, Savannah State ended the game with a 23-7 run.

The Tigers scored 24 points off 17 Allen turnovers.

SSU had all 12 players score at least two points that saw action.
