Alex Wright scattered three hits over five innings and struck out eight but Savannah State failed to score a run in the Tigers 6-0 loss to Central Florida.
The John Euliano Park crowd of 1,321 saw Wright, who was tagged with the loss, give up two runs and walk five before being relieved by
Shawn Sausville in the sixth inning. Other SSU pitchers seeing action were
Paul Sheffield and Greg Smith.
Savannah State (2-4) was held to just five hits. The Tigers made two errors and left seven men on base.
The Tigers, who did not get their first hit until the top of the fifth, had runners in scoring position in the fourth and sixth innings.
Central Florida (3-3) scored once in the first and third innings and added two more in the sixth and eighth innings.
UCF had nine hits, made one error and stranded 12 men on base.
Rylan Thomas had three hits for the Knights while Joe Sheridan struck out nine and gave up four hits in his six innings on the hill to earn the win.
