Samuel Carter is a native of Savannah, Georgia, United States military veteran, and performance trainer dedicated to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. Carter was recently appointed Assistant Track & Field Coach at Savannah State University, where he previously served as a volunteer coach, assisting jumpers & sprinters coaching multiple SIAC conference champions and All-SIAC conference performers. He brings championship experience, academic excellence, and servant leadership to SSU.
A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), Carter excelled as one of the program's premier jumpers. Competing in the long jump, triple jump, sprints, and relay events, he earned gold ASUN Conference Champion honors in the triple jump 3 times and collected multiple first team All-ASUN honors during his collegiate career. His personal best in the triple jump ranks among the top five performances in EKU and ASUN history.
Beyond athletic success, Carter distinguished himself in the classroom. While pursuing a master's degree in Exercise and Sport Science with a concentration in Sports Administration, he maintained a 4.0 GPA and was honored as the 2024 ASUN Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, recognizing him as one of the conference's top student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership.
Carter's journey also reflects remarkable resilience. After completing his undergraduate studies, he served in the United States Army Reserve, where he endured insurmountable odds, while demonstrating the discipline, integrity, and commitment that continue to shape his coaching philosophy.
As a coach, Carter is passionate about developing complete student-athletes for the next level. Drawing from his experiences as a collegiate champion, scholar, military veteran, and mentor, he strives to build champions on the track, in the field and life.
