Sonya Wilson

Sonya Wilson enters her third season as assistant women&rsquo;s basketball coach for the Lady Tigers.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Wilson comes to SSU from Orangeburg-Wilkerson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina while Hamilton spent last season at Tallahassee Community college in Tallahassee, Florida. <br /> <br /> &ldquo;Sonya impressed me with her organization skills. She is a winner and a professional,&rdquo; said head coach Cedric Baker. &ldquo;She brings Division I experience to the staff, having spent time at South Carolina State and Fordham. It will be great having somebody on staff familiar with the MEAC. Having that insight is an advantage for the coaching staff&rdquo;. <br /> <br /> Wilson spent the 2008-09 season as a volunteer assistant at Orangeburg-Wilkerson and has worked at Devro Inc. in Sandy Run, SC since 2006. From 2004-05, she worked as an assistant at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC. Prior to working at SCSU, Wilson spent three years working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Wilson spent three years as an assistant coach at Fordham University and before that was a graduate assistant coach at Kentucky State for one season. <br /> <br /> A 1994 cum laude graduate of SCSU with a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in business administration, the Orangeburg, SC native was a standout player for the Lady Bulldogs. She was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament&rsquo;s Most Outstanding Player in 1992-93 and received a second-team All-America citation in 1993-94. After her collegiate playing career, Wilson spent two seasons playing internationally in Switzerland and Italy.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Wilson is single and resides in Savannah, Ga. <br />
