Andy Harre enters his fifth year as the assistant coach for women’s basketball at Savannah State University, in his second stint at SSU.
Harre spent two seasons as the special assistant to Head Men’s Basketball Coach Horace Broadnax from 2012-14, where he collaborated in scouting, reporting and cultivating academic and athletic talent with student-athletes. During this time, Harre helped led the team to a post-season appearance in the College Invitational Tournament.
During the 2019-20 season, Harre and head women’s basketball coach Cedric Baker led the Lady Tigers to a 15-8 overall record, their best since the 2014-15 season during the program’s first year of competition back in NCAA Division II and the in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). The Lady Tigers earned the No. 2 Seed in the SIAC East Division with a 10-7 conference record.
In between his two stints at SSU, Harre coached at Griffin High School in Griffin, Ga., For two seasons, he posted a 26-24 record as the head boys’ basketball coach. In 2014-15, the Bears posted a 20-8 record, the first 20-win season in the last 10 seasons and earned a birth to the Georgia High School Association State Tournament, for the first time in four years.
Prior coming to SSU in 2012, Harre spent a season with Grambling State University as an assistant men’s basketball coach. He served as the head recruiting coordinator and monitored and participated in training/practice sessions.
Harre was an assistant men’s basketball coach, serving as the head recruiting coordinator, at Clayton State University from 2006-11. In his five seasons, Harre was instrumental in the development of two All-Americans and eight All-Conference players. Harre also helped lead CSU to a No. 2 national ranking, two trips to the NCAA Tournament, a trip to the Sweet Sixteen and Round of 32, while also winning a conference tournament.
Harre spent a season with Seminole State College as an assistant men’s basketball coach from 2005-06. He served as the head recruiting coordinator and performed in-game responsibilities.
The Melbourne, Fla., native started his coaching career with Oviedo High School in Oviedo, Fla., from 2003-05 as an assistant coach. The team went 45-10 in two seasons and went to the Elite 8 in FHSAA in 2004-05.
Harre played for Florida Southern College from 1998-00 and went to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 1999 and Elite 8 in 2000. FSC went 60-10 in 1999-00 finishing in the top-five national, including No. 1 in 2000, including finishing the season ranked No. 1 in all national polls.
Harre received an associate degree from Brevard Community College in 2001 and a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Central Florida in 2004.
