Katherine Dotson was added to the Savannah State softball coaching staff in 2014. Dotson, a Savannah native, attended Savannah Country Day where she was a four-sport star in softball, basketball, soccer, and track.

After attending Savannah Country Day, Dotson matriculated to the University of Tennessee on a softball scholarship. Dotson earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation/ Sports Management, with minors in Business and Consumer Science in 2013.

The Lady Vols went to three Women’s College World Series (WCWS) in 2010, 2012 and 2013, during Dotson’s career. Tennessee finished runner-up in the 2013 WCWS and won the Southeastern Conference (SEC) title in 2011.

Dotson accumulated a long list of accolades while at Tennessee; including First-Team All-SEC for 2010, 2012, and 2013, SEC Co-Freshman of the Year in 2010; and Preseason All-SEC in 2013. Dotson ranks in the Lady Volunteers’ career top 10 for batting average. She concluded with a career .368 average.

Prior to Savannah State, Dotson served internships at Contemporary Services Corporation in Atlanta, Ga., and in the University of Tennessee Athletic Department in Event Management. In 2012, she served on the board of directors with the Tough Girl non-for-profit organization in Savannah, Georgia.

In 2008, Dotson was honored by the Savannah Hall of Fame with the Lawton M. Calhoun award, given to the best athlete in the area. Her father, Gene Dotson is a member of the Hall of Fame and played football and baseball at the Citadel.
