A message from the strength and conditioning staff

The Savannah State University Strength and Conditioning Department has designed at-home training programs for our student-athletes. This will provide all SSU student-athletes an opportunity to continuing training for their upcoming competition seasons during this period of social distancing, isolation and quarantine.

The training sessions are primarily bodyweight in nature with the addition of equipment suggestions of regular household items. One example being a body weight squat to still allow the athletes to train their lower body strength and a bent over row with a suitcase for back strength and development. The sessions are total body workout sessions and contain conditioning work as well so our student-athletes stay in optimal athletic shape.

Exercise is medicine. Providing student-athletes with an exercise routine not only aids with maintaining body strength but impacts mental health as well.

The new training programs have been sent to all Savannah State programs. Coach Vandusen will be available all day for questions and instructions.
You can contact him at vandusenj@savannahstate.edu. He will also be providing exercise demonstrations and workout posts on social media via Instagram @coach_v_strength

A message from the athletic training staff

In this unprecedented time, we are all making modification to how we are providing services to our student athletes at Savannah State University.
Sports medicine is remaining dedicated to providing care to student-athletes through social distancing.

With this in mind, we have afforded students the opportunity to communicate with sports medicine staff on a regular basis in order to meet their healthcare needs. We will still be available for office hours from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for general appointments.

Appointments can be made by contacting Mr. Rob Reyburn (reyburnr@savannahstate.edu) or Ms. Chesnee Miller (millerc@savannahstate.edu)through email. Student-athletes can also contact Mr. Reyburn at his office number, or through GroupMe.

Zoom is a video conference platform that allows us to have face-to-face interactions while complying with privacy standards. Below is the link to download Zoom.
