SAVANNAH, Ga. – With the Savannah State football team on a bye this week and the cross country season set to begin next week, the spotlight belongs to the Lady Tigers women's volleyball team.

Savannah State volleyball officially opens its 2026 campaign with five matches on the road, beginning Tuesday night. Here's a look at the Lady Tigers' opening week in the latest installment of "This Week In Tiger Athletics."

Volleyball
After a successful preseason training camp that culminated with the annual Orange & Blue Intrasquad Scrimmage last week, head coach Roselidah Obunaga and the Savannah State women's volleyball team will officially open the 2026 season this week.

The Lady Tigers begin the season on Tuesday, September 1, traveling to Mt. Vernon, Georgia, for a non-conference matchup against Brewton-Parker Christian. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Following Tuesday's season opener, the Orange & Blue will return to the road for a trip to Albany, Georgia, where Savannah State will compete in the Black Excellence Volleyball Classic, hosted by Albany State University. SSU will open tournament play on Friday, September 4, with a pair of matches. The Lady Tigers will face Claflin at noon before returning to the court to take on Clinton College at 2 p.m Savannah State will conclude the Classic with two more matches on Saturday, September 5, beginning with Wiley University at 9 a.m. The Lady Tigers will wrap up their opening week against Virginia Union at 1 p.m.
