SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Jaliyah Harper scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in Savannah State's 62-55 loss to Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon in Tiger Arena.
The senior from Lancaster, Texas also added three assists, two blocks and a steal in the game.
Haylee Malcum finished the game with 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block for SSU.
Savannah State trailed 15-6 with 1:31 left in the opening quarter but ended the quarter with a 6-2 run as Malcum made a layup and Harper chipping in a jumper and a layup.
SSU began the second quarter with a 10-5 spurt to tie the contest at 22 with 6:04 showing on the clock.
The Badgers went ahead 28-27 late in the quarter and a layup by
Ansley Hicks with 58 seconds remaining sent SSU into the half with a 29-28 lead.
Spring Hill went ahead 39-31 with 5:28 left in the third quarter and led 43-35 at the 3:04 mark before SSU finished the half with the final eight points to send the teams into the fourth quarter tied at 43.
With the game tied at 45, the Badgers took a 52-45 advantage with 6:27 remaining but Savannah State scored the next five points to pull within 52-50 with 5:13remaining.
Spring Hill answered with a 6-0 spurt to go ahead by eight and SSU could not get any closer than five the rest of the way.
Raven Birt scored nine points for Savannah State,
Sanai Chisholm had seven,
Saniya Rice had five while
Ansley Hicks and
Makaila Johnson scored four each.
SSU (7-13, 6-13 SIAC) will host Edward Waters on February 14 at 2 p.m.
