CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Savannah State ran their wining streak to four games with a double-header sweep over Johnson C. Smith on Friday afternoon at Biddleville Park.
The Lady Tigers shut out JCSU 8-0 in the first game and completed the sweep with a 8-1 victory in the second game.
Savannah State rode the arms of
Aaliyah Martin and
Donnea Allen during the wins.
Martin allowed five hits but no runs or walks in the first game while Allen struck out 11 in the second game while surrendering three hits, one run and one walk.
In the first game, SSU scored a run in the top of the first inning and added another in the third for a 2-0 lead. The Lady Tigers pulled away with six runs in the fourth.
Milani Dunning had two hits and scored twice for Savannah State.
Ansley Hudson crossed home plate twice and
Ambria Guye drove in a pair of runs.
Dunning and Hudson both hit triples in the contest.
Savannah State started the second game with five runs in the first inning with
Kaitlyn Williams and
Kennedy Alsbrook hitting RBI singles,
Jayla Alexander hitting a two-run single and
Shamiya Raines hitting a RBI double.
The Golden Bulls scored a unearned run in the third but SSU increased their lead to 7-1 in the fifth as
Neveah Ford stole home and Raines hit a RBI single.
Savannah State scored the final run of the day in the top of the seventh when Raines hit a RBI double to left field.
Raines ended the game going 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and a triple and three RBI. Alexander had one hit, drove in two runs and scored three times while Alsbrook added a pair of singles. Dunning also hit a triple.
As a team, SSU stole ten bases in the game with Ford and Alexander stealing two apiece.
Savannah State (6-2) will travel to Trinity College of Jacksonville for a double-header on February 21.
