FRANKFORT, Ky.- Savannah State ended their two-game road trip in the mid-west with a 57-45 loss to Kentucky State on Saturday afternoon in a game played in the William Exum HPER Center.
With the loss, SSU and Kentucky State split their regular season series. Savannah State edged the Thorobreds 70-68 in Tiger Arena on December 6, 2026.
The Lady Tigers trailed by seven with 3:34 remaining in the first quarter but then scored the next eight points to cut their deficit to 11-10, following a layup by
Jaliyah Harper. KSU led 12-11 after one quarter of play.
Savannah State found themselves down by five early in the second quarter but was able to whittle the Thorobred lead to 21-20 with 4:36 on the clock, after a jumper by
Jayden Boykin.
A 7-0 spurt by KSU put the Lady Tigers down by eight but Savannah State ended the first half with a tip-in by Harper and a free throw from
Ansley Hicks to go into intermission down 28-23.
Kentucky State led by as many as nine in the third quarter but saw Savannah State get as close as 38-33 with 2:09 left before going into the fourth quarter with a 43-34 lead over SSU.
A 3-pointer by
Sanai Chisholm to open the fourth quarter cut SSU's margin to six but the Thorobreds answered with a 6-1 spurt to increase their advantage over Savannah State to 49-38.Â
After a jumper by Harper, KSU strung together six unanswered points to go ahead 55-40 with 3:29 left in the game.
Savannah State was able to get as close as 12 late in the game before Kentucky State scored with 12 seconds left for the final points of the contest.
Harper led the way for the Lady Tigers with 18 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and two blocks.
Haylee Malcum added eight points and three blocks while Boykin and Chisholm scored four points apiece. Boykin added three steals and Chisholm dished out four assists.
Hicks chipped in four points and four steals and
Raven Birt had three points.
Savannah State (7-11, 6-11 SIAC) will return to Tiger Arena to start a three-game home-stand against Albany State on February 5 at 5:30 p.m.
