Lady Tigers Fall At Central State

WILBERFORCE, Oh.- Savannah State fell to 7-10 overall and 6-10 in the SIAC, following Thursday's 63-52 loss to Central State, in a game played at Beacom/Lewis Gym.

The Lady Tigers defeated Central State 63-53 in Tiger Arena on December 4, 2025.

SSU trailed 13-10 with 3:33 remaining in the first quarter until the Marauders finished the quarter with a 8-0 spurt to extend their lead to 21-10.

With just over three minutes left in the second quarter, Savannah State trimmed their 36-24 deficit to four, finishing the first half with a 9-1 to go into the half down 37-33.

A Savannah State basket early in the third quarter cut CSU's lead to 37-33 but the Marauders scored the next four points to go ahead by six.

SSU was able to tie the game at 42 after a layup by Ansley Hicks and went ahead 44-42 following a layup by Sanai Chisholm with 5:33 left in the third quarter.

The Lady Tigers held a slim 46-45 lead with 1:27 left in the quarter but surrendered back-to-back layups and went into the fourth quarter down 49-46.

Savannah State's offense went cold in the final quarter of play, going 1-for-12 from the field as they only scored six points while Central State put up 14 points to win the game by 11 points.

SSU shot 45.5 percent from the field in the first quarter and 60 percent in the second quarter before running out of gas in the second half where they shot a respectable 35.3 percent in the third quarter but 8.3 percent in the final ten minutes of action.

Despite only having seven players, the Lady Tigers won the rebounding battle, 37 to 35.

Jayden Boykin was the only SSU player in double figures with 16 points. She also had eight rebounds and four steals.

Haylee Malcum grabbed ten rebounds, scored eight points and had four steals before fouling out.

Jaliyah Harper had nine points and six rebounds and Saniya Rice also added nine points. Chisholm contributed six points while Hicks and Raven Birt chipped in two, points each.

Savannah State will travel to Kentucky State on January 31 for a 2 p.m. tip-time.
