Lady Tigers Halt Losing Skid, Take Down LeMoyne-Owen

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State put a halt to their seven game losing streak with a 65-59 win over LeMoyne-Owen on Thursday evening in Tiger Arena. It was the Lady tigers longest losing streak since losing seven in a row during their final season in Division I (2018-19).

Both squads entered the game short-handed due to injuries. The Magicians dressed out eight players while SSU had seven in uniform.

With the victory, Savannah State completes the season sweep of LeMoyne-Owen, having beat them 63-51 in Memphis, Tennessee on November 20, 2025.

Sanai Chisholm scored a career-high 18 points in the six-point win while Haylee Malcum grabbed a season-best 14 rebounds.

SSU trailed 10-9 with 5:38 left in the first quarter but held the Magicians to just two points the rest of the quarter as they took a 17-12 lead.

LeMoyne-Owen started the second quarter scoring the first ten points to go ahead 22-17.

Down 24-19, Savannah State strung together a 14-0 run to grab a 33-24 advantage at the 2:08 mark.

Following a free throw by LMC, a jumper by Malcum put the Lady Tigers by ten, 35-25.

SSU went into the half carrying a 37-30 advantage and a jumper by Chisholm to begin the third quarter gave the Lady Tigers a nine point edge.

But the Magicians worked their magic and took a 41-39 lead with 5:46 left in the third frame.

The game was tied at 46 until LeMoyne-Owen hit a late basket that gave them a 48-46 lead headed into the final ten minutes of play.

Baskets by Malcum, Chisholm and Raven Birt to start the fourth quarter put SSU ahead 52-48 with 6:29 showing on the clock.

LeMoyne-Owen was able to tie the game at 54 but a jumper by Malcum and a 3-pointer by Saniyah Rice gave SSU a 59-54 lead.

The Magicians made the score 59-56 with 2:26 left but Savannah State went on a 6-0 run to extend their cushion to 65-56 with 20 seconds remaining.

In a game that had eight ties and nine lead changes, SSU scored 23 points off 17 LeMoyne-Owen turnovers.

Ansley Hicks added 12 points for Savannah State and Jayden Boykin contributed 11 points and six rebounds.

Malcum scored eight and had four blocks, Rice and Birt chipped in six points apiece and Jaliyah Harper had four points, eight rebounds and four assists and four steals.

Savannah State (7-9, 6-9 SIAC) will travel to Central State on January 29.
