SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State saw their overall record fall to 6-6 after a 92-60 setback to Clark Atlanta on Saturday afternoon in Tiger Arena.
The loss drops the Lady Tigers SIAC record to 5-6.
SSU got off to a slow start, falling behind 22-8 after one quarter of play.
Down by 18 in the second quarter, a 3-pointer and a layup by
Jazmin Thornton cut the Lady Tigers deficit to 28-15 with just under six minutes remaining.
Savannah State scored 13 points in the second quarter and went into intermission trailing 46-21.
SSU was able to score 14 points in the third period with
Haylee Malcum and
Jayden Boykin scoring four points each.
Entering the fourth quarter down 72-35, the Lady Tigers were able to outscore CAU 25-10 in the final ten minutes of play.
Savannah State had a 6-0 mini run during the final two and a half minutes with layups from
Jaliyah Harper and
Sanai Chisholm and a pair of free throws by Hicks.
SSU made 11 of 16 shots from the field in the fourth quarter (68.8 percent) and made both free throw attempts.
Thornton led Savannah State with 15 points and five rebounds while Hicks chipped in 13 points and five rebounds.
Harper and
Raven Birt added eight points each and Malcum had six points and six rebounds. Boykin and
Makaila Johnson scored four points apiece and Chisholm contributed two points.
SSU will hit the road to play at Benedict on January 14 at 5:30 p.m.
