SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State Lady Tigers suffered their first home loss of the season, following a 55-49 loss to Tuskegee on Wednesday evening in Tiger Arena.
The setback gives SSU a 6-3 overall record and a 5-3 mark in conference play.
Savannah State saw their ten point lead in the third quarter decreased to 36-34 as the teams entered the start of the fourth quarter.
Tuskegee was able to tie the game at 40 and again at 42.
The Lady Tigers trailed by a point with three minutes left before
Jayden Boykin's jumper gave SSU a 47-46 advantage with 2:44 showing on the clock.
Tuskegee responded by scoring the next eight points for a 54-47 lead with 42 seconds remaining and held on to win the game.
Savannah State got off to a slow start to open the contest.
A pair of free throws by
Jaliyah Harper with 6:21 left in the first quarter were SSU's first points and a layup from
Jazmin Thornton with 5:23 showing on the clock was Savannah State's first field goal.
Tuskegee led 11-8 after the first quarter.
A 3-pointer by Boykin to open the second quarter tied the game at 11.
Down 13-11, SSU used a 12-2 run to grab a 23-15 advantage with just over two minutes remaining in the half.
Savannah State led 27-21 at the break and began the third quarter with layups by
Ansley Hicks and Thornton to build a 31-21 advantage with 6:19 left in the quarter.
Thornton led SSU with 16 points wile Hicks tossed in 13 points.Â
Thornton, Hicks, Harper,
Sanai Chisholm and
Haylee Malcum all had four rebounds for Savannah State.
Raven Birt had three assists and Boykin had four steals. Thornton and Malcum both blocked a shot.
Savannah State will close out the 2025 portion of their season by hosting Miles on December 19 at 4 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
