Lady Tigers Comeback Bid Falls Short At Albany State

ALBANY, Ga.- Savannah State's rally from a 16-point deficit fell short in the Lady Tigers 68-62 loss to Albany State on Thursday evening at the HPER Gym Complex.

SSU trailed by three points at halftime but their deficit grew to 16 points midway in the third quarter.

The Lady Tigers ended the third quarter on a 8-2 spurt and entered the fourth quarter down 53-43.

Down by a dozen early in the fourth quarter, Savannah State whittled the ASU down to single digits and a layup by Jayden Boykin made the score 64-62 with 1:13remaining.

However, the Golden Rams answered with the final four points of the game to get the win.

The setback halted a three-game win streak by Savannah State, dropping their overall record to 5-2 and their SIAC record to 4-2.

SSU started the game on fire, scoring the first nine points but Albany State stormed back and cut the Lady Tigers lead to 18-16 at the end of the opening quarter.

The Golden Rams went ahead 28-19, thanks to a 12-1 run to start the second quarter. Savannah State got within 30-29 but a layup with ten seconds left sent Albany State into halftime with a 32-29 edge.

A 11-0 run to start the third quarter expanded the ASU lead to 43-29. A layup by Sanai Chisholm with 6:32 showing on the clock was Savannah State's first points of the second half to cut Albany State's lead to a dozen but ASU scored the next four points to go ahead by 16.

Albany State controlled the boards, out-rebounding SSU 44 to 25.

Jaliyah Harper led SSU with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 1 assist. Jayden Boykin added 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block while Jazmin Thornton chipped in 10 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block.
