JACKSON, Tenn.-Jazmin Thornton fouled out of the game with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter but not before scoring a game-high 15 points in Savannah State's 85-58 loss to Lane on Saturday evening in Lane Gymnasium.
The sophomore forward scored nine of her points from the free throw line and finished the game with two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
It was the Lady Tigers first setback of the young season.
SSU trailed 19-14 at the end of the first quarter and were down 23-20 in the second quarter before Lane went on a 16-2 run to go ahead by 17.
Lane went into the half leading 45-28.
The Dragons led by as many as 20 in the third quarter before a 12-2 spurt by SSU made the score 55-45 with 4:23 on the clock.
Savannah State was down 68-50 entering the fourth quarter and were held to just eight points during the final ten minutes.
Jaliyah Harper was the only other SSU player in double figures with ten points.Â
Ansley Hicks had six rebounds and three assists,
Sanai Chisholm had three assists and three steals and
Haylee Malcum blocked one shot.
Savannah State (2-1, 1-1 SIAC) will travel to Fort Valley State on November 29 for a game at 2 p.m.
